Prepare yourself to read an extraordinary story that will stir your heart and stimilate your mind. The extraordinary life and voice of Juliana Zanville.
Friends, meet Juliana. One night only, Juliana will perform for a WOMAN’S ONLY audience. Juliana will share parts of her life story throughout the performance and answer questions afterwards.
Juliana’s story is more compelling than her angelic voice. As a child she was abused, beaten, handicapped, isolated, neglected, and literally tortured. Her eyes were so bad and her family so poor she was given binoculars to see. There was so much abuse she was hidden from the world and never stepped foot into a classroom.
Juliana taught herself 8 languages. She became an accomplished performer, traveled the world, and started her own catering service. Juliana’s short lived happiness lasted only a short while before years of abuse started catching up and her health began to fail. Now, at 35, Juliana walks with a cane and is riddled with pain and suffering. Fighting for every penny and living with extreme pain that’s worsening daily, Juliana still has the voice of an angel, and this benefit performance is meant to raise money to cover living expenses while getting medical treatment.
Juliana will perform classic and contemporary pieces in Hebrew, English, Italian, Latin, Spanish and more if there’s time.
JACLA will offer an open bar before and after the performance and of course JACLA’s famous light show.
COST = No obligation. You decide how much to pay after the performance.
Juliana has been battling health issues since a very early age. She was born without oxygen, abandoned by her biological father and raised by a severely mentally disabled single mother whose mental handicaps were so drastic she never entered Juliana in school, neither public or home schooled, which being illegal in this country, compelled her mother to keep her hidden from the public, so no one would question the situation and the state wouldn’t remove the child from her custody. She taught Juliana only how to read, and on her own with no guidance from any scholastic system Juliana studied and taught herself. She plays chess, has knowledge in 8 languages, and is at a college level in a variety of subjects including. Literature, global history, music, art, languages, dance, horticulture, philosophy, roman and Greek mythology, medicine, middle eastern, and British history, theatre, film, architecture, just to name a few.
This was a child who read encyclopedias and dictionaries for fun. She was a prodigy trapped in an abusive home with no one to help and only a few people knowing she existed. She was an only child raised by her mother grandmother and aunt. All three of whom were abusive especially the aunt who was diagnosed as manic depressive with psychotic episodes. The aunt was the one who supervised the child when the mother was out. The trauma inflicted on Juliana by her aunt was so severe, Juliana is unable to remember half of it, but it includes physical violence, knives, being put in a box and dragged into the street to be left in oncoming traffic, another time in a motel room being held down by her aunt and her mother in this instance and physically violated. Her aunt was placed in a mental institution when Juliana was 7 years old.
Juliana was rarely taken to the doctor, her eyesight was so negatively affected as a child she was using binoculars to see until at last her mother took her to get glasses. When Juliana was 15 they were evicted into the street from their house because no one was working. They lived in a car and then various motels till Juliana started working at 16 to support them. She had very limited options as she had no state or school id and to work any job would have had to show identification, ironically she is third generation from orange county yet was forced to live as an illegal.
Juliana’s one dream, one sanctuary, throughout her childhood since the age of 3 was dancing singing and acting, the films of Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire were her inspiration. Though it should be noted she had no access to even the television from age 7 till 16 as the hoarder mother blocked the TV, creating a world of newspapers piled to the ceiling, 6 inch pathways to squeeze through. Juliana has a near photographic memory, remembering every film she’s ever seen. She would not see a television again until they were in a motel room when she was 16.There had been no money for the continuation of the limited theatrical training she’d received at various places, only her own practice, this wasn’t enough for her distant dream of Broadway film and TV for which you have to train 6 days a week, but she was skilled enough to start work as a middle eastern dancer specializing in Arabic and Persian, in restaurants. Cabarets, weddings, bar mitzvahs all manner of venues, she was also working in catering and Events and was about to branch out to start her own business when her health finally collapsed.
Juliana has worked since age 16 till now of 35 nonstop to make enough to support herself, her disabled family, & struggle to maintain her health, while constantly trying for her dream of artistic achievement and education, She always did charitable work. Over the years she has helped many people who at times could not pay their rent, or with food any resource she had she gave freely of since having known suffering has always wished to help others. In better years she employed many people. priority being people in need, single mothers, those with no family, immigration issues medical etc., anyone who knows her well knew they could count on her if they were in need. This has no longer been possible due to failing health.
She was diagnosed 8 years ago with sjogrens syndrome and was on the borderline of lupus and rheumatoid arthritis then, for which she has not been able to receive treatment due to lack of money, the crisis at this moment has reached that she needs rotary cuff surgery, she cannot move her left arm, she has stage 2 arthritis in left hip and both knees, if left untreated she will require a hip replacement surgery and or be in a wheelchair. She was dancing just 2 years ago and working fulltime in catering events, now she walks with a cane sometimes a walker, cannot stand, sit, or stay in any position for long the pain is so severe. Both her arms are in braces, she was already suffering inflammation of all joints especially hands and arms, but since her left arm is disabled she has had to compensate using her right and now it has reached the point, that she cannot move her right hand at times, even the smallest task to use the phone , turn a doorknob make a meal are agony, she is unable to work and while has just received medical insurance needs help for the living expenses, co pays, and many medical expenses that insurance won’t cover, besides the arm surgery , she is in urgent need of a rheumatologist for the auto immune disease which is life threatening as well as an endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, and neurologist for other life threatening conditions that require further testing to diagnose and stabilize, & which may require more funding upon final diagnosis.
We ask if you can find it in your hearts to reach out to this woman who’s been on her own her whole life. Refused help by the system that she was kept isolated from due to the abuse of others. Since legally becoming an adult she has constantly sought help from various programs and was repeatedly denied because her situation didn’t fit bureaucratic criteria. Please help her to walk and live normally again so that she can not only go on to a normal life outside of emergency rooms and collapses, but to start her own business to not only sustain herself but to provide employment and opportunities for others. Even more important to achieve her dream of starting a non-profit organization to help people all over who are suffering from medical, poverty, hunger and lack of education, but are refused help by the existing foundations and government programs, as she has been denied her whole life simply for not fitting their criteria, her goal is to help others like herself that have no voice and no one to speak for them. Thank you again for your compassion and time.
